You know something needs to change. You're not yet sure exactly what to build. This engagement starts with the thinking — then moves to the building.
A Consulting to Build engagement begins with strategy and ends with software. It's the right model when you have a clear business problem but aren't yet sure what the right technical solution looks like. We spend the first phase working with you to understand the problem deeply, explore options, challenge assumptions, and arrive at a well-reasoned recommendation. Once we agree on the approach, the engagement transitions into a structured build — with the same rigour and process as a Fixed Scope project, now informed by a much more thorough understanding of what we're actually solving.
The experience
This engagement requires genuine openness from both sides. We'll ask hard questions, challenge your framing, and potentially recommend something different from what you came in expecting. That's not obstruction — it's how we make sure we build the right thing. The consulting phase is thorough because what we learn in it shapes every decision in the build phase. The transition from consulting to building is clear and documented — you'll know exactly when we've moved from thinking to building.
Honest boundaries
Consulting to Build isn't a shortcut to avoid defining requirements. It's a disciplined process for defining them well when they're genuinely unclear. If you already have clear requirements and just need someone to execute them, Fixed Scope is the more efficient path. And if you need ongoing advisory without a committed build phase, a standalone consulting arrangement is more appropriate.
The most expensive thing you can build is the wrong thing. We spend time upfront so you don't spend money afterwards fixing it.
Not sure what to build yet? That's exactly where this starts.
